A player who voluntarily removes their helmet on the field of play or end zone during a play, a celebration, or a confrontation is penalized Unsportsmanlike Conduct.
Targeting: Forcible contact with the helmet against an opponent, particularyly when a player lowers their head to initiate the hit.
Defenseless Player: It's a major concern when hitting players who are in a vulnerable position, like a quarterback after a throw or a receiver reaching for a catch.
Suspected targeting results in a Personal Foul.
Unlike UIL or NCAA, there is no ejection of the athlete due to lack of instant replay.
A player rendered or appearing unconscious shall not return for the remainder of the game.
Players suspected of sustaining a concussion must be removed from the game. When in doubt-sit them out.
If in the Referees determination a player is not able to participate they are allowed to refuse that player reentry into the game.
If removal reduces the team below (11) players, reference On Field Minimum Rule.
